Will they be the runnin’ Horns?
Unless Brown and offensive coordinator Greg Davis are orchestrating the ruse of all ruses, expect Texas to at least partially get back to its roots this season with a revamped running attack.
Despite the lack of a proven workhorse tailback — leading candidates to share the majority of carries are sophomore Tré Newton and junior Fozzy Whittaker — the Longhorns want a downhill rushing game to pose a threat to defenses. In 2009, Texas managed only 147.6 ground yards per game, its lowest average since 2002.
If Texas is serious about revamping its running game, sophomore Tré Newton is a leading candidate to be a featured tailback.
