Matthews ready to step up
So far in his college career, sophomore Barrett Matthews’ résumé consists of one tackle on special teams. But that should change dramatically this year.
The 6-2 235-pounder has found a home in the tight end/H-back role in Texas’ new running schemes. Although Brown says Matthews’ pass-catching skills need polishing, he caught some eyes in the spring and will get his chance to shine.
Another potential stepper-upper? Wide receiver DeSean Hales. In the spring, the sophomore and Gilbert showed a nice rapport.
