Apparently theft of animals from city facilities is more commonplace than we might imagine.
While I am sorry to hear that the koi were stolen from the Isamu Taniguchi Japanese Garden, I was surprised to learn that 10 to 12 officers were investigating the theft.
At least one dog was stolen from Town Lake Animal Center this past week, but that does not appear to be newsworthy. I can’t even get confirmation that it was reported to the police, much less that anything is being done to pursue the case or prevent repeat problems.
The shelter staff seem to consider the theft of some animals to be just part of doing business. How sad. JeAnette lArson
