Drug traces found in mom, son in fire

NEW YORK — A sin­gle mother and her teenage son ap­par­ently in­gested a drug be­fore dy­ing in a sus­pected murder-sui­cide and ar­son that killed three other chil­dren in their Staten Is­land apart­ment, two law en­force­ment of­fi­cials said. Pills were found in the stom­achs of Leisa Jones and the teen dur­ing au­top­sies last week, said the of­fi­cials. Po­lice have said the teen’s and two other chil­dren’s throats were slit. The New York Times re­ported that traces of smoke were found in the mother’s lungs, sug­gest­ing that she was alive when the house was set ablaze.
