new council member sworn in
Barry Bone was sworn in Monday as the newest member of the Rollingwood City Council. The council voted 3-2 last week to appoint Bone, who has led the Rollingwood Utility Commission and ran unsuccessfully for a council spot in the May 8 election. The opening on the council was created after Alderman Bill Hamilton was elected mayor in May.
Aldermen John Hinton and Shanthi Jayakumar and Mayor Hamilton voted in favor of appointing Bone; Aldermen Roxanne McKee and Sara Hutson voted against. The mayor normally does not vote, but did so to break a tie.
Kelli Carlton, who leads the Rollingwood Park Commission and also ran unsuccessfully for a council spot in May, and Leslie Davis, who served on the council from 2001 to 2007, also applied for the open seat. The council voted 3-1 last month to appoint an alderman by an application process. McKee voted against the move.
