GUIDANCE PROGRAM ACCREDITED
The National Institute for Trauma and Loss has named the district’s guidance and counseling program an accredited institute for trauma and loss.
The program received the accreditation after 60 district counselors received specialized training by the institute in the level-one certification specialist program for trauma and loss. Some counselors received more than 85 hours of instruction and coursework.
The certification program taught the district’s counselors how to deal with emergency events and taught early intervention tools and techniques to care for students in trauma and loss events. The district has five trauma and loss response teams.
The institute was founded by William Steele, who is known for his work at Columbine High School and in New York after the events of 9/11.
