In contrast to stateside Yahoo, Yahoo Japan turning to Google
Yahoo Japan will use technology from Google Inc. to power its Internet search engine and search advertising platform, charting a different course from its U.S. cousin, the Japanese company said. Yahoo Japan is partly owned by U.S.-based Yahoo Inc., which is planning to switch to Microsoft Corp.’s Bing search technology this year.
The partnership would combine Google’s search technology with Yahoo Japan’s popular content and services. Google’s share of Web searches in Japan has been growing, but it still trails Yahoo Japan, the market leader.
