In con­trast to state­side Ya­hoo, Ya­hoo Ja­pan turn­ing to Google

Ya­hoo Ja­pan will use technology from Google Inc. to power its In­ter­net search en­gine and search ad­ver­tis­ing plat­form, chart­ing a dif­fer­ent course from its U.S. cousin, the Ja­panese com­pany said. Ya­hoo Ja­pan is partly owned by U.S.-based Ya­hoo Inc., which is plan­ning to switch to Mi­crosoft Corp.’s Bing search technology this year.

The part­ner­ship would com­bine Google’s search technology with Ya­hoo Ja­pan’s pop­u­lar con­tent and ser­vices. Google’s share of Web searches in Ja­pan has been grow­ing, but it still trails Ya­hoo Ja­pan, the mar­ket leader.
