Last year, running back Mark Ingram won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore and then broke the Heisman winner’s bowl game jinx by rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns against Texas. The previous two Heisman winners, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Florida’s Tim Tebow, were both sophomores, but neither could claim a second trophy. Ingram may not get enough carries to repeat. Trent Richardson, a freshman last year, rushed for 80 yards in the SEC championship game against Florida and gained 109 against Texas. It could be hard to keep him off the field.
Running back Mark Ingram beat the Heisman jinx with a big title game, but this season he’ll share the load with Trent Richardson.
