Haley Haught, a member of the Westlake High School girls state championship team last spring, shot a 4-over-par 76 Tuesday to take the first round lead in the Texas Girls Junior State Championship at Horseshoe Bay Apple Rock.

Jessa Labarbera of Allen shot 77 to take second place. Austin’s Elena Warren, the defending state champion, shot 78 and was tied for third with Abby Newton of Katy.

A three-hour weather delay left almost half the field in the boys division still on the course at Ram Rock when play was suspended due to darkness.

Of those who finished play, Austin’s Dylan Shephard recorded the low score of the day with a 1-under 70. Klein Klotz of Austin shot 71 and was tied for second with Garrison Lackey of Weslaco and Blake Pugh of Southlake.
