Austin American-Statesman - - LOCALBRIEFING -

The city is mulling over whether to extend the hours it charges for metered parking.

A memo from city transportation Director Robert Spillar says transportation staffers and city representatives have met several times with stakeholders to gather ideas about downtown parking and valet practices.

The stakeholder group includes downtown neighborhood associations, large event organizers, the Austin Hotel & Lodging Association, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and others, Spillar said. The group “indicated support for extended (meter) hours and more valet restrictions and enforcement,” Spillar wrote.

The Transportation Department is still developing its recommendations, spokeswoman Leah Fillion said. Current meter hours are 8:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, she said.
