Mayor shot daugh­ter in back

Au­topsy re­ports show that Cop­pell Mayor Jayne Peters was sev­eral feet be­hind her daugh­ter when she shot and killed the 19-year-old.

Records re­leased Tues­day by the Dal­las County med­i­cal ex­am­iner and Cop­pell po­lice said Peters shot her­self in the fore­head some­time af­ter killing her daugh­ter, Corinne Peters, with a shot to the back of the neck.

Their bod­ies were found in their home ear­lier this month af­ter Jayne Peters didn’t show up for a City Coun­cil meet­ing.

The Dal­las Morn­ing News re­ported that the women didn’t have al­co­hol or drugs in their sys­tems when they died. Jayne Peters did have two patches for the pow­er­ful painkiller fen­tanyl on her back, but the med­i­cal ex­am­iner’s of­fice found no ev­i­dence of the painkiller in her sys­tem.

The news­pa­per also re­ported that an anony­mous donor gave the city $10,000 to cover Jayne Peters’ per­sonal charges on a city credit card.
