Cities out of open meetings suit
U.S. Judge Robert Junell on Wednesday dismissed Pflugerville and three other cities from a lawsuit challenging the Texas Open Meetings Act as unconstitutional.
The lawsuit against Texas and Attorney General Greg Abbott will continue, however, because 17 elected officials are also part of the legal action, which claims enforcing open meetings laws would violate the First Amendment.
Junell ruled that free speech is an individual right that does not pertain to cities. The other cities dropped from the lawsuit were Alpine, Rockport and Wichita Falls.
