Whole Foods job cuts in distribution switch
Whole Foods Market Inc. said it will cut 59 jobs at its Austin distribution center.
Starting in September, Whole Foods’ center in East Austin will distribute only perishable items. Distribution of nonperishables will be taken over by United Natural Foods Inc., which is opening a distribution center in Dallas.
Eligible Whole Foods employees can apply for other jobs with the Austin-based grocer, and some will be offered jobs with United Natural Foods, with incentives if they transfer to Dallas, a Whole Foods representative said. Whole Foods has 1,817 employees in Austin.
