Austin American-Statesman - - WORLD & NATION -

MEXICO CITY — The U.S. Consulate in Juárez, across the border from El Paso, will temporarily close pending a review of its security protocols. The U.S. Embassy said the consulate will “remain closed until the security review is completed.” The embassy statement did not say what prompted the review. The decision came about four months after drug gang hit men killed a U.S. employee of the consulate, her husband and two other people tied to the consulate. The Juárez Consulate is the only place where Mexicans can apply for permanent residency in the U.S.
