In law­suit, U.S. ac­cuses Or­a­cle of de­cep­tion in soft­ware deal

The Jus­tice Depart­ment filed suit against Or­a­cle Corp., ac­cus­ing the soft­ware gi­ant of de­fraud­ing the U.S. govern­ment in con­nec­tion with a ma­jor con­tract.

The com­plaint al­leges that the com­pany mis­rep­re­sented its dis­count poli­cies and manipulated trans­ac­tions in­volv­ing a soft­ware con­tract for the Gen­eral Ser­vices Ad­min­is­tra­tion. Or­a­cle re­ported to­tal sales of about $1.1 bil­lion un­der the con­tract, which cov­ered soft­ware li­censes and main­te­nance, ac­cord­ing to the com­plaint. Through a spokes­woman, Or­a­cle de­clined to com­ment.
