detroit fugitive nabbed in austin
A fugitive accused of abduction and sexual assault in Detroit was arrested Friday afternoon at an eastern Travis County home, according to an official with the U.S. Marshals Service.
Curtis Derrell Snerling, 30, of Detroit was arrested by members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in the 4500 block of Best Way, near FM 969, said Hector Gomez, a Marshals Service supervisory deputy.
Snerling is accused of kidnapping, beating and sexually assaulting a female over the course of a day in June, Gomez said.
Texas officials were alerted to Snerling’s presence in the Austin area several days ago, Gomez said. Task force officers learned Friday morning that Snerling was at the home, he said. It is unknown whether the homeowners knew of the charges Snerling was facing in Detroit, Gomez said.
When law enforcement officials arrived at the home, Snerling was seen leaving out a side door, Gomez said. He was arrested after officers ordered him to the ground, he said.
Two handguns were removed from the home, Gomez said.
Snerling is at the Travis County Jail awaiting extradition to Wayne County, Mich., he said.
