Tex-Mex ‘village’ vacated after 8 decades
After 79 years, Jaime’s Spanish Village served its last lunch crowd Friday. The restaurant at 802 Red River St. was closing because it lost its lease. Owner Charlie Tames, right, said the furniture and other items will be removed today. He said the art and memorabilia will be stored for use in a possible future venture. Tames’ late uncle, Jaime Tames, bought the restaurant about 40 years ago. Charlie Tames said he worked as a busboy at the restaurant as a teenager when he first came to the U.S. from Mexico.
