The Chicago Cubs re­in­stated pitcher Car­los Zam­brano from the re­stricted list. He was sus­pended June 26, a day af­ter he got into a ver­bal al­ter­ca­tion with team­mate Der­rick Lee.

The Mets put out­fielder Ja­son Bay on the 15-day dis­abled list with a con­cus­sion.

Billy Loes, who pitched on three pen­nant-win­ning Brook­lyn Dodgers teams in the 1950s and was an AL Al­lS­tar in 1957, died July 15 in Tuc­son, Ariz. He was 80.

Matthew Clem­mens, 21, who in­ten­tion­ally vom­ited on a spec­ta­tor and his 11-yearold daugh­ter at a Phillies game in April, was sen­tenced to up to three months in jail and com­mu­nity ser­vice, which the judge sug­gested be ful­filled by clean­ing ball­park toi­lets and trash.
