Slaying victim wrote of love

2009 Anderson High graduate was shot by Chiefs linebacker boyfriend Saturday.

All seemed well just months ago between 2009 Anderson High graduate Kasandra Perkins and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.

The couple, who, according to Perkins’ Facebook page made public their relationsh­ip in February 2010, had a baby girl in September.

The month prior, Perkins wrote she was “in love with Superman,” along with a photo of Belcher leaping through the air in a football game.

In another photo that Perkins posted with the caption “My loves,” Belcher is cradling their newborn.

But tragedy struck Saturday when Belcher fatally shot Perkins, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.

Authoritie­s did not release a possible motive for the murder-suicide, though police said Belcher and 22-year-old Perkins had been arguing recently.

According to The Kansas City Star, which quoted a friend of Perkins, the couple had argued about 1 a.m. Saturday after Perkins returned to the couples’ home from a Trey Songz concert. The newspaper reported that Belcher was angry that Perkins stayed out late with friends.

According to the story, Belcher shot Perkins hours later, and the shooting was witnessed by Belcher’s mother, who was visiting from New York.
