Partner benefits on school board agenda
Trustee wants up-ordown vote on plan to offer insurance benefits to unmarried couples.
Nearly two months after the Pflugerville school district announced it would offier insurance beneflts next year to domestic partners, the school board is reviving the controversial issue.
Trustee Jimmy Don Havins has called for the issue to be put on the agenda at the Dec. 13 board meeting. He said he plans to make a motion to revert to the current coverage, which does not include unmarried partners, and wants “an up or down vote.”
In early October the district began handing out information on its 2013 insurance beneflts, offiering coverage to same-sex and heterosexual domestic partners for the flrst time.
