Quar­ter­back Johnny Manziel be­came Texas A&M’s first Heis­man Tro­phy fi­nal­ist in more than a half-cen­tury on Mon­day, when the top three vote-get­ters for col­lege foot­ball’s big­gest in­di­vid­ual award were re­vealed.

Manziel, a red­shirt fresh­man, will join two se­niors, Kansas State quar­ter­back Collin Klein and Notre Dame line­backer Manti Te’o, in New York this week for Satur­day’s cer­e­mony. Manziel, who led the Ag­gies to a 10-2 sea­son and a Cot­ton Bowl berth, is the fa­vorite to be­come the first fresh­man to win the cov­eted tro­phy. Only
