Trustees re­con­sider con­tract with char­ter

Three months af­ter the Austin district launched its first char­ter school part­ner­ship with IDEA Pub­lic Schools, school board mem­bers are now con­sid­er­ing re­vamp­ing the con­tract to keep IDEA from ex­pand­ing into a sec­ond East Austin school.

In an­other im­pend­ing re­ver­sal, the board post­poned in­def­i­nitely the launch of an all-boys school, a pro­posal Su­per­in­ten­dent Me­ria Carstarphen has been work­ing on for more than a year.

Both moves came in the course of a some­times tense, six-hour meet­ing that lasted un­til the wee hours Tues­day morn­ing as four new board mem­bers flexed their mus­cles af­ter be­ing elected last month.
