Trustees reconsider contract with charter
Three months after the Austin district launched its first charter school partnership with IDEA Public Schools, school board members are now considering revamping the contract to keep IDEA from expanding into a second East Austin school.
In another impending reversal, the board postponed indefinitely the launch of an all-boys school, a proposal Superintendent Meria Carstarphen has been working on for more than a year.
Both moves came in the course of a sometimes tense, six-hour meeting that lasted until the wee hours Tuesday morning as four new board members flexed their muscles after being elected last month.
