Ex-goalie dies at 41 of stroke

Miguel Calero, the former Colom­bia goal­keeper who played for more than a decade with Mex­i­can club Pachuca, died Tues­day in Mex­ico City of com­pli­ca­tions fol­low­ing a stroke. He was 41.

■ Pros­e­cu­tors an­nounced they are charg­ing three play­ers, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old, with manslaugh­ter, as­sault and pub­lic vi­o­lence for their al­leged involvement in a vi­cious at­tack on Richard Nieuwen­huizen af­ter a youth match be­tween two lo­cal Dutch clubs out­side of Amsterdam. Nieuwen­huizen, 41, was beaten fol­low­ing a match Sun­day where he was a lines­man. He died Mon­day. Pros­e­cu­tors have re­leased no de­tails of a pos­si­ble mo­tive.
