Schools replace cafeteria glass
Kitchen ‘sneeze guards’ are being replaced at 18 schools after glass was found in student meals.
The Austin school district is replacing glass panels in kitchens at 18 schools after glass shards were found last week in cafeteria lunch food at Allison Elementary.
The shards, which fell from the so-called sneeze guards that serve as barriers between the food and the receiving line, were found in an individual portion of pinto beans. More than 100 prekindergarten and kindergarten students had already gone through the line Nov. 29 before the glass shards were spotted by one of the food servers.
Plastic shields were installed on the lunch line at Allison Elementary on Wednesday after glass shards were found last week in cafeteria meals.
