Manziel SEC’S top offensive star; Muschamp, Sumlin split honors
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the year while the Aggies’ Kevin Sumlin shared coaching honors.
SEC coaches also named South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney as the top defensive player on Wednesday and awarded Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis and South Carolina return man Ace Sanders co-special teams honors.
Florida’s Will Muschamp split the coaching award.
Alabama center Barrett Jones is the top scholarathlete and Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
Te’o wins Lombardi Award: Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o won the Lombardi Award on Wednesday as college football’s best lineman or linebacker.
Te’o, also a Heisman Trophy finalist, had 103 tackles and seven interceptions this year to help the undefeated Fighting Irish reach the BCS championship game against Alabama.
Te’o edged Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones, Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones and South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney for the award presented by the Rotary Club of Houston.
