Manziel SEC’S top of­fen­sive star; Muschamp, Sum­lin split hon­ors

Texas A&M quar­ter­back Johnny Manziel is the South­east­ern Con­fer­ence of­fen­sive player of the year while the Ag­gies’ Kevin Sum­lin shared coach­ing hon­ors.

SEC coaches also named South Carolina de­fen­sive end Jade­veon Clowney as the top de­fen­sive player on Wed­nes­day and awarded Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis and South Carolina re­turn man Ace San­ders co-spe­cial teams hon­ors.

Florida’s Will Muschamp split the coach­ing award.

Alabama cen­ter Bar­rett Jones is the top schol­arath­lete and Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel won the Ja­cobs Block­ing Tro­phy.

Te’o wins Lom­bardi Award: Notre Dame line­backer Manti Te’o won the Lom­bardi Award on Wed­nes­day as col­lege foot­ball’s best line­man or line­backer.

Te’o, also a Heis­man Tro­phy fi­nal­ist, had 103 tack­les and seven in­ter­cep­tions this year to help the un­de­feated Fight­ing Ir­ish reach the BCS cham­pi­onship game against Alabama.

Te’o edged Alabama of­fen­sive line­man Bar­rett Jones, Ge­or­gia line­backer Jarvis Jones and South Carolina de­fen­sive end Jade­veon Clowney for the award pre­sented by the Ro­tary Club of Hous­ton.
