Ex-receiver gets six months for battery
Police say David Boston punched woman in head.
Former NFL receiver David Boston was sentenced Friday in West Palm Beach, Fla., to six months in jail and five years of probation for punching a woman.
Boston, 34, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery last month. Authorities say Boston had been drinking at a Boca Raton home in November 2011 when he punched a woman twice in the head, leaving a wound requiring 10 stitches.
Boston played at Ohio State and went to the Pro Bowl with the Cardinals in 2001. He also played for the Chargers and Dolphins.
Bears: Cornerback Tim Jennings, who leads the NFL with eight interceptions, will miss Sunday’s game at Minnesota with a shoulder injury.
Broncos: Defensive end Von Miller was fined $25,000 by the NFL for his hit below the knee of Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman on Sunday.
Falcons: Safety William Moore (hamstring) and cornerback Asante Samuel (right shoulder) missed practice for the third straight day and are questionable for Sunday.
Giants: Safety Tyler Sash (hamstring) and tight end Travis Beckum (knee) won’t play Sunday.
Jets: Tight end Dustin Keller will likely not play Sunday after being sidelined all week at practice with a sprained left ankle. He is listed as doubtful, while wide receiver Clyde Gates (concussion) is out.
■ Authorities who raided Indiana properties owned by former Jets offensive lineman Jason Fabini and his brother searched three more Fort Wayne sites. The FBI hasn’t said why the Safe Streets Task Force raided the sites. The group is comprised of federal, state and local officers and focuses on gangs and illegal drugs and firearms.
Lions: Defensive tackle Nick Fairley was fined $15,750 by the NFL for his horse-collar tackle of Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck on Sunday.
Packers: Green Bay will be without five starters for Sunday night’s game against the Lions. Linebacker Clay Matthews (hamstring), safety Charles Woodson (collarbone), receiver Jordy Nelson (hamstring), running back James Starks (knee) and defensive end C.J. Wilson (knee) won’t play. The forecast calls for heavy snow in Green Bay.
■ Packers cornerback Tramon Williams was fined $21,000 by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Minnesota’s Toby Gerhart on Sunday.
Patriots: With eight more receptions, receiver Wes Welker would become the first player in NFL history with five 100catch seasons. Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice are the only other players with four seasons of at least 100 receptions.
Steelers: Linebacker LaMarr Woodley will miss his second consecutive game Sunday with a high ankle sprain.
Titans: Linebacker Colin McCarthy will miss his second consecutive game because of a concussion, and his sixth overall, when the Titans visit Indianapolis on Sunday. Receiver Damian Williams (hamstring) also is out.
Vikings: Groundbreaking for the new $975 million stadium is tentatively set for October 2013. The stadium will be built on the site of the former Metrodome. The Vikings hope to open the new stadium in time for the 2016 season.
