And Mack shall lead them. At least, that’s what his pres­i­dent is say­ing.

As many ques­tion the idea of Mack Brown pi­lot­ing the Texas Longhorns to pre­vi­ous lofty heights, Bill Pow­ers came out and threw his pres­i­den­tial weight be­hind Brown on his blog Thurs­day.

“Now that the Longhorn foot­ball team has fin­ished its reg­u­lar sea­son, there has been an in­crease in me­dia spec­u­la­tion about Coach Mack Brown’s fu­ture,” he wrote. “I’d like to state un­equiv­o­cally that Coach Brown has my full sup­port as well as the sup­port of Men’s Ath­let­ics Di­rec­tor DeLoss Dodds. Put suc­cinctly, Mack Brown is and will re­main the Longhorns’ head foot­ball coach.”

If I didn’t know any bet­ter, it would seem we just read one of those dreaded votes of con­fi­dence. Ex­cept in this in­stance, Pow­ers isn’t some NFL GM who gives a pub­lic pat
