City Council may award contract for test well
During their regular meeting Tuesday, the Bastrop City Council will consider awarding a contract for $51,000 to Andrew’s & Foster Drilling Company for drilling a test hole at Mayfest Hill Park.
“The major purpose of drilling the test hole is to identify aquifer zones in the Wilcox Aquifer which may be suitable for municipal water supply,” City Manager Mike Talbot said.
The council will also consider a funding recommendation for the city’s Art in Public Places program from Karol Rice, chair of the volunteer Bastrop Art in Public Places Task Force. They are suggesting the city consider a mural or a “mosaic stairway” as one of the first projects, with cost estimates ranging from $40,000 to $60,000.
“The scope of the project will be determined by this general project amount (approved by the council),” Rice said in a letter. “We would like artists to be aware of the council’s basic level of support so an artist is not spending time on a design and project proposal that is significantly outside the scope of the (city’s) desire or ability to fund.”
The council meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. at City Hall, 1311 Chestnut St.
