Austin American-Statesman - - THE SECOND FRONT - Compiled from wire reports

Work to explode bargeimpeding rock pinnacles in the Mississippi River could begin as early as next week, about a monthand-a-half earlier than first projected. But concern remains that without additional water, barge traffic on the river is in jeopardy. U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and two river industry trade groups said Tuesday they were informed by the Army Corps of Engineers that blasting could start next week, although it wasn’t clear which day it would start.
