Chavez un­der­goes surgery in Cuba

Doc­tors be­gan op­er­at­ing on Venezue­lan Pres­i­dent Hugo Chavez on Tues­day in Cuba, his government said, af­ter his can­cer reap­peared de­spite a year and a half of surg­eries and treat­ments. In­for­ma­tion Min­is­ter Ernesto Vil­le­gas, read­ing a state­ment TV, said the surgery was un­der way and that be­fore­hand Chavez had ex­pressed “ab­so­lute con­fi­dence he will over­come the ob­sta­cles that have emerged in the path of life.”
