Pub­lic meet­ings on po­ten­tial bond projects

The Austin school district is invit­ing the pub­lic to two meet­ings on po­ten­tial bond projects.

The projects are from the former 2013-14 an­nual aca­demic and fa­cil­i­ties rec­om­men­da­tions that were re­ferred to the Cit­i­zen’s Bond Com­mit­tee for pos­si­ble in­clu­sion in the next bond pro­gram, a district news re­lease said. The district will pro­vide child care and in­ter­pre­tive ser­vices dur­ing the meet­ings.

A meet­ing about the ex­pand­ing needs of ca­reer and tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion is at 6:30 p.m. Wed­nes­day at Bowie High School, 4103 Slaugh­ter Lane. The district will hold a meet­ing on ath­letic pro­gram and fa­cil­i­ties im­prove­ments at 6:30 p.m. Thurs­day at Bowie High School.

The Cen­ter for Child Pro­tec­tion has re­ceived a $5,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foun­da­tion to help fund in­ter­pre­ta­tion ser­vices for vic­tims of child abuse and ne­glect.

The Cen­ter for Child Pro­tec­tion is a child ad­vo­cacy cen­ter for foren­sic in­ter­views, med­i­cal ex­ams, coun­sel­ing and in­ter­ven­tion dur­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion and pros­e­cu­tion of child abuse cases.

Last year, 15 per­cent of the 725 chil­dren who re­ceived a foren­sic in­ter­view at the cen­ter were in­ter­viewed in their na­tive lan­guage, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease.

The Pflugerville Parks and Recre­ation De­part­ment is host­ing Hol­i­days at Her­itage Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri­day at 901 Old Austin Hutto Road.
