Report: Wat­son to be named cap­tain

Golf Di­gest re­ported on its web­site late Tues­day night that the PGA of Amer­ica plans to se­lect Tom Wat­son, cel­e­brated world­wide as an eight-time ma­jor cham­pion, as its next Ry­der Cup cap­tain.

In­stead of a stan­dard news con­fer­ence, PGA of Amer­ica was re­port­edly go­ing to in­tro­duce Wat­son on Thurs­day morn­ing dur­ing a seg­ment on the “To­day” show on NBC.

Wat­son served as cap­tain once be­fore, in 1993. Sports Palace, in­clud­ing Crown Prince Phillipe and Princess Mathilde.

In the light­hearted en­counter, Cli­jsters was des­tined to win but still wowed the crowd with the play that made her fa­mous be­fore in­juries added to her re­tire­ment at 29.
