Holiday windows compete
went for an end-of-theworld theme for its mural. It won for the North Drag area. Advertising specialist Chris Strader came up with the concept of aliens taking over a field of longhorns, a dragon attacking Austin, a giant octopus taking over the Pennybacker bridge and other scenes. It’s all tied to the Mayan calendar’s end on Dec. 21, 2012.
“We get quite a lot of foot traffic on 29th Street,” Strader says. “Anything to get them to turn and look at us.”
Six people, including a homeless man, helped paint the mural for several days. Strader already has ideas flashing around his head for next year.
At Tiny Taiga, the window is a variation of the store’s enchanted forest home decor style.
