Track seeks cash for 4 races

Cir­cuit gets city back­ing to ask state for up to $5 mil­lion in pay­backs for events on 2013 slate.

Cir­cuit of the Amer­i­cas of­fi­cials, aided by an Austin City Coun­cil vote Thurs­day, will seek what could be as much as $5 mil­lion from the Texas Event Trust Fund for four mo­tor sports events next year. Sep­a­rately, cir­cuit or­ga­niz­ers will likely seek a pay­ment from the state for the Novem­ber 2013 For­mula One race.

The coun­cil voted 5-2 to in efiect spon­sor the cir­cuit’s ap­pli­ca­tion to the Texas Event Trust Fund for re­im­burse­ment of state sales, al­co­hol, ho­tel/ mo­tel and car ren­tal taxes that a later study would de­ter­mine were gen­er­ated by the four races.
