Fam­ily iden­ti­fies singer’s re­mains

The re­mains of Mex­i­can-Amer­i­can mu­sic star Jenni Rivera were headed back to the United States af­ter be­ing iden­ti­fied by her fam­ily, state of­fi­cials said Thurs­day. The Nuevo Leon state government an­nounced that it had re­leased the re­mains. State se­cu­rity spokesman Jorge Domene said ear­lier in the day that Rivera’s fam­ily had made a pos­i­tive iden­ti­fi­ca­tion but there would a de­lay of sev­eral days while DNA tests were com­pleted.

Work­ers at a Des Moines re­cy­cling plant stum­bled upon thou­sands of dol­lars wrapped in old news­pa­pers that were nearly shred­ded. Work­ers at In­ter­na­tional Pa­per’s Des Moines Re­cy­cling Cen­ter found the money Wed­nes­day stuffed into an en­ve­lope that was wrapped in­side news­pa­pers. Des Moines po­lice Sgt. Ja­son Hal­i­fax says the fifty and one hun­dred dol­lar bills were clipped to­gether with old, rusty pa­per clips. Po­lice say the amount was tens of thou­sands of dol­lars.
