Al­liance awards 3 lo­cal groups

$20,000 in grants will go to cidery, Manor farm, high school.

Three Cen­tral Texas groups look­ing to shake up the lo­cal culi­nary scene have been awarded a com­bined $20,000 in grants by the Austin Food and Wine Al­liance.

The grants are the first to be pre­sented by the al­liance, a non­profit group funded pri­mar­ily with pro­ceeds from sev­eral food-fo­cused events — in­clud­ing the Austin Food and Wine Fes­ti­val, Live Fire, and Wine and Swine — held this year.

Ar­gus Cidery was awarded $10,000 and plans to start a test or­chard near Drip­ping Springs that will grow ex­per­i­men­tal va­ri­eties of ap­ples.

Te­colote Farm in Manor and the culi­nary arts de­part­ment at Pflugerville’s Con­nally High School each re­ceived $5,000.
