Three Central Texas groups looking to shake up the local culinary scene have been awarded a combined $20,000 in grants by the Austin Food and Wine Alliance.
The grants are the first to be presented by the alliance, a nonprofit group funded primarily with proceeds from several food-focused events — including the Austin Food and Wine Festival, Live Fire, and Wine and Swine — held this year.
Argus Cidery was awarded $10,000 and plans to start a test orchard near Dripping Springs that will grow experimental varieties of apples.
Tecolote Farm in Manor and the culinary arts department at Pflugerville’s Connally High School each received $5,000.
