Taxaide vol­un­teer re­ceives award

Jewel Kay of Drip­ping Springs has re­ceived an AARP Foun­da­tion “TaxAide Fel­low Award” for her ser­vice to the TaxAide pro­gram, a vol­un­teer-run ser­vice that fo­cuses on as­sist­ing el­derly and low in­come clients with tax prepa­ra­tion.

No more than 1 per­cent of TaxAide vol­un­teers from each state earn the award, and Kay is the first per­son in Cen­tral Texas to re­ceive it, ac­cord­ing to an AARP an­nounce­ment.

Kay was a found­ing mem­ber of the Drip­ping Springs Vol­un­teer In­come Tax As­sis­tance site, founded in 1988, and worked for the pro­gram through its con­ver­sion to TaxAide in 2004.

The TaxAide site will open from 3 to 8 p.m. Tues­days from Feb. 5 to April 9 at the Drip­ping Springs school district Com­mu­nity Ed­u­ca­tion Ser­vices fa­cil­ity, 510 W. Mercer St., and will start tak­ing ap­point­ment in mid-Jan­uary.
