Taxaide volunteer receives award
Jewel Kay of Dripping Springs has received an AARP Foundation “TaxAide Fellow Award” for her service to the TaxAide program, a volunteer-run service that focuses on assisting elderly and low income clients with tax preparation.
No more than 1 percent of TaxAide volunteers from each state earn the award, and Kay is the first person in Central Texas to receive it, according to an AARP announcement.
Kay was a founding member of the Dripping Springs Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site, founded in 1988, and worked for the program through its conversion to TaxAide in 2004.
The TaxAide site will open from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 5 to April 9 at the Dripping Springs school district Community Education Services facility, 510 W. Mercer St., and will start taking appointment in mid-January.
