Soldier killed after firing at police
Fort Hood police shot and killed a 1st Cavalry Division soldier early Friday morning after the man shot at them from his vehicle, officials said.
Fort Hood emergency services patrol officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call near the post’s Kouma Lake about 3:20 a.m. and were shot at as they approached, officials said. After returning fire, officers and medical personnel attempted lifesaving procedures, they said. The name of the 30year-old soldier is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Police have charged a Southwestern University student who they say sexually assaulted a woman in his dorm room, according to an arrest warrant.
Christopher Weinlein, 19, was charged Dec. 4 with sexual assault, records show.
The woman said she received several text messages from Weinlein on Dec. 1 saying damage had been done to her vehicle, the warrant said.
When the woman went to a parking lot the next day, Weinlein approached her and grabbed her phone and car keys and wouldn’t return them to her, the warrant said.
He agreed to meet her in his dormitory room, where he sexually assaulted her Dec. 2, the warrant said.
Weinlein was being held at the Williamson County Jail on Friday on $40,000 bail.
