Sol­dier killed af­ter fir­ing at po­lice

Fort Hood po­lice shot and killed a 1st Cavalry Di­vi­sion sol­dier early Fri­day morn­ing af­ter the man shot at them from his ve­hi­cle, of­fi­cials said.

Fort Hood emer­gency ser­vices pa­trol of­fi­cers re­sponded to a sus­pi­cious ve­hi­cle call near the post’s Kouma Lake about 3:20 a.m. and were shot at as they ap­proached, of­fi­cials said. Af­ter re­turn­ing fire, of­fi­cers and med­i­cal per­son­nel at­tempted lifesaving pro­ce­dures, they said. The name of the 30year-old sol­dier is be­ing withheld un­til next of kin are no­ti­fied.

Po­lice have charged a South­west­ern Univer­sity stu­dent who they say sex­u­ally as­saulted a woman in his dorm room, ac­cord­ing to an ar­rest war­rant.

Christo­pher Wein­lein, 19, was charged Dec. 4 with sex­ual as­sault, records show.

The woman said she re­ceived sev­eral text mes­sages from Wein­lein on Dec. 1 say­ing dam­age had been done to her ve­hi­cle, the war­rant said.

When the woman went to a park­ing lot the next day, Wein­lein ap­proached her and grabbed her phone and car keys and wouldn’t re­turn them to her, the war­rant said.

He agreed to meet her in his dor­mi­tory room, where he sex­u­ally as­saulted her Dec. 2, the war­rant said.

Wein­lein was be­ing held at the Wil­liamson County Jail on Fri­day on $40,000 bail.
