Program gives dogs home for holidays
The Humane Society of Williamson County is holding its Home for the Holidays program for a fourth year, allowing shelter dogs to have a temporary foster home for the holidays.
The shelter is looking for families who are willing to give a home to one of the shelter’s dogs from Dec. 23 to Dec. 26. Last year, 60 percent of the shelter’s dogs had a foster home for the holiday because of the program.

Great Oaks Elementary, Brushy Creek Elementary and Cedar Valley Middle School are looking for volunteers to help maintain the best possible environment for students, officials said. Assistance is needed in the cafeterias, libraries and to work on special projects.
Great Oaks and Brushy Creek elementaries also have launched a commemorative book program for the library in which a plate will be placed in a new book honoring a child or another person.
Funds raised will support school-wide reading programs and help purchase more books.

The City of Hutto has extended the deadline to apply for the 2013 Hutto Citizen’s University until 5 p.m. Friday .
Applicants must be at least 18 and have an interest in serving the city as a volunteer.
Classes begin in January and will meet monthly at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays until December 2013. Applications are available at City Hall, 401 W. Front St. or at www.huttotx.gov/ HCU.
