Stars 2, Heat 1 (So) Fraser’s goal doesn’t hold up for Texas
The Abbotsford Heat got a bit of revenge against the Texas Stars on Saturday night with a 2-1 shootout victory in British Columbia. Texas had won the first game of the weekend series 3-1 Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Stars broke through for a five-onthree power-play goal by Matt Fraser, a onetimer from the right faceoff circle that found the inside of the left post at the 5-minute, 13-second mark.
Three minutes later, the Heat responded with a power-play goal by Krys Kolanos when Ben Street threaded a pass through the middle to an unmarked Kolanos at the far left side of the net for an easy tap-in goal at 8:07.
A scoreless third period took the game to overtime, but both teams failed to score, sending the game to a shootout.
Star defenseman Jordie Benn tied the shootout at 2-2, but on the next shot, Kolanos beat goalie Jack Campbell and won the shootout.
The Stars will return from their road trip to face the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Park Center.
