The city of Bastrop will seek to purchase the Bastrop Advertiser property at 908 Water St. after a unanimous vote by the City Council Dec. 11.

Citing a need for public parking in downtown Bastrop, City Manager Mike Talbot sent a letter in early November to Cox Enterprises Inc., the owner of the property, offering to buy the property for $210,000.

Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises is also the parent company of the AmericanStatesman.

“We want to assure everyone that, should we have a sale, we will relocate our newspaper offices in the community,” said Eddie Burns, chief financial officer at the Austin American-Statesman.
