Holiday bazaars special piece of local tradition
The Christmas shopping countdown has now come down to one hand — there are five shopping days before the big day.
If you’d rather skip the mall and shop Austinstyle, there are two traditional events that offer plenty of local flair, fun and unique gifts.
The Blue Genie Art Bazaar at the Marchesa Center, 6226 Middle Fiskville Road, features more than 100 local artists and craft people. It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Christmas Eve and admission is free (www.blue genieartbazaar.com).
Mix shopping with live music at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road, which offers musical performances along with unique gifts. Thursday’s evening performer is Slaid Cleaves, who takes the stage at 8 p.m. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through Christmas Eve; admission is $5 weekdays before 7 p.m. and $8 on evenings and weekends (www.armadillobazaar. com).
