The Christ­mas shop­ping count­down has now come down to one hand — there are five shop­ping days be­fore the big day.

If you’d rather skip the mall and shop Austin­style, there are two tra­di­tional events that of­fer plenty of lo­cal flair, fun and unique gifts.

The Blue Ge­nie Art Bazaar at the March­esa Cen­ter, 6226 Mid­dle Fiskville Road, features more than 100 lo­cal artists and craft peo­ple. It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Christ­mas Eve and ad­mis­sion is free (www.blue ge­nieart­bazaar.com).

Mix shop­ping with live mu­sic at the Ar­madillo Christ­mas Bazaar at the Palmer Events Cen­ter, 900 Barton Springs Road, which of­fers mu­si­cal per­for­mances along with unique gifts. Thurs­day’s evening per­former is Slaid Cleaves, who takes the stage at 8 p.m. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through Christ­mas Eve; ad­mis­sion is $5 week­days be­fore 7 p.m. and $8 on evenings and week­ends (www.ar­madil­lobazaar. com).
