María González Bolaños has been liv­ing on $62 a month since she lost her med­i­cal ben­e­fits in March be­cause of an over­sight in her cit­i­zen­ship process.

The 71-year-old who came to the United States from Cuba a decade ago has sur­vived on that check from the Na­tional Church Res­i­dences, food from Meals on Wheels and More, sub­si­dized hous­ing from the Sec­tion 202 Sup­port­ive Hous­ing for the El­derly Pro­gram and the help of Fam­ily El­der­care, the agency that nom­i­nated Bolaños for the Austin Amer­i­can-States­man’s Sea­son for Car­ing pro­gram.
