Texas A&M rebounds to beat Prairie View
Kelsey Bone had 18 points and nine rebounds and No. 24 Texas A&M defeated Prairie View 7452 Friday night.
Kristi Bellock scored 14 points and Courtney Walker and Karla Gilbert scored 11 apiece for the host Aggies (9-4).
Bone matched her season averages in points and rebounds as the Aggies won in their first game since last Friday’s 83-74 loss to No. 5 Notre Dame in Las Vegas.
Texas A&M shot 54 percent and led 39-19 at halftime. The Aggies attempted just 3-pointers and missed both. Prairie View (3-7) was 4 for 12 from behind the arc.
Latia Williams scored 14 points and JaQuandria Williams added 11 points to lead the Panthers.
Illinois 70, No. 6 Georgia 59: Karisma Penn had 27 points and 19 rebounds as the host Illini (7-5) stunned the Bulldogs (12-1). Guard Adrienne GodBold, playing her first game of the season after regaining her eligibility, and Amber Moore added 11 points apiece for Illinois. Jasmine James and Khaalidah Miller each scored 17 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Illinois hadn’t beaten a team ranked in the top six since a win over then-No. 5 Georgia on Jan. 2, 2000. The Bulldogs came in as one of the nation’s seven undefeated teams with a 28.1-point average margin of victory.
No. 7 Kentucky 90, Alcorn St. 23: Samarie Walker had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and the host Wildcats (11-1) allowed the fewest points in school history in a rout of the Braves (0-9).
