A year in review of road construction
Crews have been busy all year on road projects, and in the 10th installment of Getting There’s annual review, Ben Wear looks at the area’s largest roads under construction.
Project: Extend the Texas 71 expressway east to near U.S. 183, including an underpass at East Riverside Drive, and frontage roads alongside the new express lanes. Length: 1 mile Projected cost: $35 million (Original estimate: $43 million) Start: February 2012 Estimated completion: Summer 2014 Project update: Working on the westbound frontage road and beginning to build the east-to-west turnaround bridge.
Juana Rosas sits at the dinner table with four of her five children to help with homework. Rosas works several jobs to provide for her children. ‘I struggle so much that it hurts, but this is about my children,’ she says. ‘They come first.’
