Williamson DA seeks more money for backlog of cases
Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick on Tuesday asked county commissioners for nearly $50,000 in extra pay for prosecutors and for a new clerk because of a backlog of cases he says he inherited when he took office.
Dick requested about $21,600 to pay for salary increases for three new prosecutors for the rest of the fiscal year ending in October. He also asked for $28,000 for a clerk that he said former District Attorney Jana Duty hadn’t requested in this year’s budget.
Dick also said he needed the Commissioners Court’s permission to use $21,700 already in his budget to pay three investigators overtime to handle more than 200 cases he said were never investigated that his office discovered when he took over in January.
The commissioners didn’t take action on any of Dick’s requests but set a public hearing for their regular meeting Tuesday at the Williamson County courthouse.
