Wil­liamson DA seeks more money for back­log of cases

Wil­liamson County Dis­trict At­tor­ney Shawn Dick on Tues­day asked county com­mis­sion­ers for nearly $50,000 in ex­tra pay for prose­cu­tors and for a new clerk be­cause of a back­log of cases he says he in­her­ited when he took of­fice.

Dick re­quested about $21,600 to pay for salary in­creases for three new prose­cu­tors for the rest of the fis­cal year end­ing in Oc­to­ber. He also asked for $28,000 for a clerk that he said for­mer Dis­trict At­tor­ney Jana Duty hadn’t re­quested in this year’s bud­get.

Dick also said he needed the Com­mis­sion­ers Court’s per­mis­sion to use $21,700 al­ready in his bud­get to pay three in­ves­ti­ga­tors over­time to han­dle more than 200 cases he said were never in­ves­ti­gated that his of­fice dis­cov­ered when he took over in Jan­uary.

The com­mis­sion­ers didn’t take ac­tion on any of Dick’s re­quests but set a pub­lic hear­ing for their reg­u­lar meet­ing Tues­day at the Wil­liamson County court­house.
