School for kids with dyslexia buys Southwest Austin site
Austin’s Rawson Saunders School is buying property in Southwest Austin that it plans to use as its future campus site, school leaders say.
The 33.7-acre site, which Rawson Saunders School is purchasing from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, is near School Road and Patton Ranch Road, not far from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s Upper School campus. Rawson Saunders School is currently at 2614 Exposition Blvd.
Construction on the new campus is scheduled to begin next year, with plans to open for the 2019-2020 school year. The campus will be built in phases, with a total price tag not yet available.
The pending contract for the land sale prohibits disclosure of the purchase price.
Rawson Saunders School plans to develop 5.2 acres of the land, based on the school’s long-term needs and impervious-cover limits. The future campus is expected to have about 144,000 square feet and will serve grades one through 12.
Officials with Rawson Sanders, a nonprofit independent school, say it is the only full-curriculum school in Central Texas exclusively for children with dyslexia, and one of only a few of its kind in the country. It has 174 students and 77 faculty and staff. Annual tui-
