U.S. opens Gold Cup vs. Panama on July 8

The United States will open the CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 8 in Nashville, Tenn., against Panama, which beat the U.S. on penalty kicks in the 2015 third­place match.

The U.S. plays Mar­tinique on July 12 in Tampa and closes group play against Haiti or Nicaragua on July 15 in Cleve­land.

If the Amer­i­cans win Group B or fin­ish sec­ond, they would ad­vance to a quar­ter­fi­nal dou­ble­header July 19 in Philadel­phia. The other quar­ter­fi­nals are the fol­low­ing day at Glendale, Ariz. The cham­pi­onship is July 26 in Santa Clara, Calif.

■ Or­lando City of the MLS will be with­out star Kaka for about six weeks af­ter he suf­fered a ham­string in­jury dur­ing Sun­day’s sea­son opener.
