PRE-K BILLS AND THE TEXAS LEG­IS­LA­TURE

Sev­eral law­mak­ers have con­tin­ued the push to ex­pand prekinder­garten in Texas. Some of the bills filed this leg­isla­tive ses­sion in­clude:

■ House Bill 2282, spon­sored by state Rep. Eric John­son, D-Dal­las, would fund high-qual­ity, full­day pre-K for qual­i­fy­ing school dis­tricts through the ex­ist­ing school fi­nance for­mula. Many

other bills filed inthe House and Se­nate also ad­dress full-day pre-K on a univer­sal level or for cer­tain stu­dents.

■ House Bill 1389, spon­sored by state Rep. He­len Gid­dings, D-Dal­las, would cap pre-K class­rooms at 22 stu­dents.

■ House Bill 480, spon­sored by state Rep. Cindy Bur­kett, R-Sun­ny­vale, would al­low the oper­a­tion of prekinder­garten-only char­ter schools.
