Vic­tims of Biloxi bus crash mourned

Lock­hart cou­ple had been mar­ried 36 years.

Cars lined the streets near down­town Lock­hart as rel­a­tives and friends of Peggy and Ken Hoff­man made their way to the sanc­tu­ary of the First United Methodist Church to say their good­byes.

Af­ter 36 years of mar­riage, the cou­ple died to­gether March 7 af­ter a bus on which they were rid­ing be­came stuck on rail­road tracks in Biloxi, Miss. A train slammed into the bus at just un­der 20 mph, killing the cou­ple and two oth­ers and in­jur­ing dozens more.

The fu­neral for the Hoff­mans, long­time ed­u­ca­tors in the Lock­hart In­de­pen­dent School Dis­trict, drew more than a hun­dred peo­ple, who came to cel­e­brate two pil­lars of the Cald­well County com­mu­nity. The dou­ble doors to the main sanc­tu­ary of the church were thrown open to ac­com-
